Poseidon glanced around, as he was boarding the train that would take him to only the best school on the planet. Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which was his most favorite place to be, other than the condo he shared with his mother back in Manhattan. He was more than excited to be back, to be learning even more. He was going into his fifth year, and he never thought that he would be having the time of his life. After all, it was school, and across all communities, that was generally seen as a drag. For Poseidon, it was something he had never experienced and had always been excited to do. His mother was a No-Maj, so his childhood hadn’t had any magical influences. He didn’t mind though, she had provided a good life for him and made sure he had some sort of education before he headed off to Ilvermorny. His father hadn’t been around, but it was a mutual agreement for his parents. He didn’t see his father often (apparently he was a very important man in the Wizarding community), but when he did, his father made it memorable.
He didn’t like being away from his mother at times though. Poseidon worried about her, and if she was happy and she was doing well. After all, it had just been the two of them for a long while, until recently, when she had begun dating someone named Paul. He was a nice man, and taught at the local No-Maj high school. Paul wasn’t aware of where Poseidon went to school, just that it was “an elite boarding school who taught students with special skills”. Luckily for his mother, she didn’t have to explain any more than that, and the two of them were happy together. Poseidon thought he would have been jealous when his mother went into the dating pool, since it was supposed to be the two of them against the world, but he hadn’t. Instead he had been relieved, since he knew for sure that his mother wouldn’t feel alone now.
She had seen him off, the two of them hugging each other greatly, knowing that they’d get to see each other at Thanksgiving break for a whole week. Until then, they would exchange letters as much as they could. Poseidon had his own owl, Athena (funny, considering the Greek mythology between the two of their namesakes), and his mother had an owl named Sally, which he had insisted she adopt, since then she could send letter whenever she pleased. His mother had definitely found a pet owl strange, but soon told him that it was nice having another person in the house.
Now he had boarded the train, and he sat in a compartment, waiting for the train to leave. This year was going to be different; he just had that gut feeling that something great and big was awaiting him, that he was going to go on an adventure of some kind. The door slid open and Poseidon looked and saw that it was his fellow Thunderbird, and fifth year, Hera. A while ago, Poseidon had found out that Hera was a mermaid, something that he thought was pretty much the coolest thing in the world. Poseidon had lived up to his namesake, loving the water, and spending as much time as he could near it. He honestly hoped that he could one day become one too. "You're joining me? Awesome! I didn't think you would get to bless me with your presence today. Sit down, and then we can figure out what we're going to buy from the snacks trolley," he chuckled, patting the seat next to him. This year was already starting off well.

The summer had been much to long. Hera enjoyed it, and it allowed her to have a short break from the normal homework loaded upon all the students, especially as she got older, though really, she loved Ilvermorny. She loved all the magic that constantly surrounded her, all the magic which was so different but fantastical, and all of the people, too. She was a mermaid, well, a half mermaid, she supposed, since she only turned into one upon contact with water. That made it easier though, since she could be both on land and go to Ilvermorny and live a relatively normal life, but she could also spend time in the lake, swimming around with an extraordinary speed, and diving as deep as she wished. She just felt free in the water, and she loved that feeling so much.
Term was finally started, and Hera was excited as ever. She would finally be able to go back to Ilvermorny, and see everything again. She loved start of term, the initial feeling of getting back home. She hoped to stay at Ilvermorny forever, and one day even become a professor, though she didn't know how likely it was that would happen, since many wanted to be professors. Maybe she could be a full time mermaid. No, that wouldn't be good, since she would never see her non-mermaid friends. Couldn't she just stay in school forever? She only had three years left, and she had no doubt they'd pass by much too quick, so Hera just had to make the most of her time left. At least she wasn't a seventh year, about to graduate.
She boarded the train, and got a few stares when others caught sight of her pastel colored hair, though didn't care, she was used to it, and she liked her hair. She trudged through the halls of the train, lugging her trunk behind her, and peered into each compartment, seeing that the train was already packed and not wanting to sit with some random people, or mean students, either. Being stuck with a strict professor would also be no fun. Luckily, she found a friend very quickly, Poseidon Sheridan. They were both Thunderbirds and in the same year, and they had known each other for many years, and Poseidon, although her wasn't a mermaid (well, she supposed a male mermaid wold be called a merman), he had a great fascination and love for the water, which she thought was ironic because of his namesake. Well, they both had greek names, and that was something odd they could always connect with each other for.
"Yep, if you don't mind," she said, setting down her things across from her as her as she sat down. "Ooh, we definitely need to buy snacks. Chocolate frogs are a must, of course, and liquorish wands are good. What about some sugar quills? Oh, I just love candy in general, we can get whatever you'd like."
