Why. She couldn't believe why someone would ask why they were offered a job at the most prominent wizarding school in the country; one of the most in the world, really. So many wizards and witches wanted to be apart of the staff and be able to teach, yet few were actually given the chance. She was offering this job only because school started so soon and she was beyond desperate to get someone young and without commitments. Aiden seemed like the perfect choice, a simple solution. She expected for him to easily jump on board, though maybe it wasn't simple. He was probably drunk, anyway, so she didn't even care what he said. He was coming back to Ilvermorny with her, whether he wanted it or not.
"Don't ask me why," she snapped. "Be grateful for this position. I know teachers don't typically get paid much, but your pay here will be much better than at just about anywhere else. We know it's hard to deal with countless amounts of children everyday. You are going to accept this position, and we're going to leave and go to the school, since you still need to be trained and we don't have much time."
The term was finally beginning, and Clara was frantic. It was only her second year as the headmistress, and she was the youngest one in Ilvermorny's history, too, so she had much to live up to. Luckily, she was her own boss, and people trusted her to run the school, so if she did anything wrong, it wasn't like she could get fired or anything. Only angry parents could come to her, and that was just about as bad as an angry boss. The point was, she had to do well for the school, and she had to get this term off to a great start. She didn't know where Terry, her friend and the deputy headmistress was, though just supposed she was somewhere, so ignored the fact she was missing for the moment.
However, students were beginning to arrive, filtering into the dining hall, and Clara just remained in the dining room, along with the other professors, except for the ones escorting the students inside. She went over what she was going to say in her head, the words on repeat, and soon enough, the crowd was gathered. Wampus at the far left table. Pudwudgie next to them. Thunderbird next. Horned Serpent, her own house, was the furthest to the right. The new students were in a line, going in the middle of the dining hall, waiting to be sorted and have a wand chosen. She didn't know why students sat down when they would have to get up in a moment, anyway, though the students tended to like to have a few minutes to catch up with their old friends in their houses, and she needed to make her first speech, so there was that, and of course, traditions were traditions.
After a few minutes, the students finally settled down, she cleared her throat, and made her way to the front. Eyes came to her, and she began to talk, "Welcome to Ilvermorny, both old and new. I'm Professor Rosewood, the headmistress of this school, and not too long ago, I was a student here. I made my best memories, my worst, and everything in between in these very halls, and I'm sure that everyone has had and will have a different and unique experience here. Sorting will begin in a few moments, so students just follow the professor that led you in, and older students, go to the viewing balcony."
She walked back to the entrance hall, along with the mob of the students, and found her magically closed off space for the professors, and began to watch the sorting begin, the statues choose the students for their houses.
She rolled her eyes at Aiden, ignoring his question, "I'm here to offer you a job that I know you won't decline. I can tell you aren't exactly in a, er, professional situation unless this is what you do know, but this offer is one better than any others you could be able to get." She said, glaring at the girl, who seemed to be annoyed, and probably was getting even more so at Clara standing there. Did she think that the headmistress was there to see him too? She almost laughed at that thought, though stifled it, not wanting to seem strange.
"I'm Clara Rosewood, the headmistress at Ilvermorny," she said. If this girl was a no-maj, it didn't matter since she was probably too drunk to notice anything anyway. "And you're going to be the professor of herbology and head of Pudwudgie at Ilvermorny." It was more of a demand than an offer, but she didn't care. She had to get her point across, and if she did by force, then she did. "I know who you are since I have access to all the records of students and former students, obviously."
The school needed a new herbology professor, and they needed one fast. The last one was a good professor, though very old, so he died that summer, not to the surprise of many, including Clara. He had been at Ilvermorny for ages, though all things must come to an end, so he died. It was a terrible loss, though she didn't have time to mourn. The school was without a professor of a vital class all wizarding schools needed to have and a class that Ilvermorny had had for centuries, so she needed to find a quick replacement. Luckily, she knew just the person, and wasn't going to waste a single moment to find them.
Her duties as a headmistress were broad, and one of them was knowing all the people of the school; the students, the former students, and the professors. This former student - Aiden Jones - she never knew personally, just passing him through the halls when she was an older student and head girl from time to time. She knew mainly that his expertise was in herbology, so she needed him. She could convince people, she could convince really well with her words or even bribery, so she would do what it took. Clara had a locating spell she knew ( and thank goodness for that ), so she knew just where to find him: in Boston. However, she didn't expect for him to be, well, drunk and in the middle of doing something with another girl.
Walking up to him and ignoring the other girl, she clearly called his names, "Aiden Jones. What the hell are you doing?"
Aiden + Clara - Clara is the headmistress, so I have no doubt that she knows Aiden, him being a professor. Their relationship is up to you; Clara can come off as a bit stiff and cold, though truly cares about professors, since after all, they're the ones who run the school by teaching their classes; she just manages everything.
name:: clara rosewood gender:: female age:: thirty-three date of birth:: september fourth, nineteen eighty-two place of birth:: new york
house:: horned serpent graduate wand:: eleven inches, hawthorn with a unicorn mane core, sturdy blood type:: halfblood profession:: headmistress of ilvermorny
appearance:: clara naturally has light brown hair, though with a couple spells, she dyes it a light blonde, and prefers to keep it that way. she has pale skin which burns extremely easily, her friends jokingly calling her a vampire often. she has thin lips, and her eyes are a blue green color, looking slightly different depending on the amount of light reflecting on them. she typically keeps her hair cut slightly below her shoulders, usually curling it slightly or straightening it. she doesn't wear an excessive amount of makeup on a daily basis, usually just some lipstick, mascara, concealer if she needs it, and a bit of blush. she wears professional attire since that's practically a requirement of a headmistress, and she feels looking important is even more necessary since she's rather young and many probably wouldn't take her as serious as someone much older, as the headmasters and headmistresses usually are.
personality:: clara is intelligent, and values her mind really above all else, which was what ultimately made her decide to be in horned serpent instead of thunderbird and wampus, even though she values the soul and has the qualities of a warrior. she often uses her head to make decisions instead of her heart, which can lead to many thinking she's cold, which isn't a lie, though she can warm up to people if she gets the change to really be able to really know them. she's strict in a classroom, though fair. some dislike her for being strict, though feels like it's needed, especially when the deputy headmistress is the opposite. clara carries herself with a confident air, knowing anything but it wouldn't make for a proper leader of the school, anyway. she takes time to grow truly attached to a person, partially because she's afraid she'll loose them, and is even slower in romance than friendships.
history:: clara was born in a small home in the countryside of new york to a muggleborn witch and a pureblood father, their relationship being forbidden by her father's family, but he denied them and eloped with his true love. they both went to ilvermorny, her mother being a thunderbird and her father pukwudgie. their household wasn't large, though comfortably fit her parents, clara, and her younger sister. her childhood was magical both literally and figuratively, and they were the very image of the perfect family. until her mother was killed. it was an accident, she was just experimenting with spells, though they went horribly wrong, and resulted in her ultimate demise. she mourned for months, it only happening when she was ten, and even though she still had her loving father, it wasn't the same without her mother. luckily, a year later she went to ilvermorny to help distract her thoughts.
she instantly made her mark by not being chosen by one, or even two, but three houses. wampus, thunderbird, and horned serpent. clara chose horned serpent, the house for the scholars, and found herself loving it. she was at the top of her class from a young age, excelling greatly in all her classes, even if her social life was in slight delay. the years flew by, and she became a prefect in her fifth and sixth year, then the head girl in her seventh. she maintained top grades, broke some academic records, and overall was a model student, often to the extend that other students would just roll their eyes, and want to befriend her even less.
it wasn't surprising when clara was offered a teaching position when she was only twenty years old. the class she was in charge of wasn't large, but still, she got to be back at the school she loved, so she greatly enjoyed it. she kept teaching, and by the time she was twenty-five, she was the charms professor. she worked hard at being the best professor she could possibly be, and as a result of that, she was well known across the school for being a favorite professor, even if she was a bit strict at times. she also wanted the position of headmistress awfully bad, though it would be beyond ambitious to think she would get the position in her young thirties. however, she had someone with her, terry, who wanted to be the deputy headmistress. terry and clara were opposites, though they did make a good team. they begged for the positions for years, and finally, the headmaster and deputy headmistress retired, and the position was given to the two young women. it's only her second year as the headmistress, though she plans to make this one even better than the last.
